Vibrant Discoveries in Thailand and Cambodia

Most people I run into mention Thailand on their list of places they would love to visit within Southeast Asia. I would agree, however, I would argue that adding Cambodia to the trip is a must! It's incredible to witness the history of this once dynasty and the beauty and challenges this country now faces. This country was once part of the powerful Khmer Empire, which ruled most of the area in the 13th and 14h centuries. It's incredible to image such a powerful empire now just getting back on its feet in modern times. Angkor Wat is a must, go early in the morning and enjoy the historical nature of this magnificent Hindu temple.

Thailand has exploded in popularity. I'm not sure if it was Leo's movie "The Beach" or the accessibility of this great country. Likely multifactorial, LOL. Thailand is incredible, I had the chance to explore Bangkok, the northern areas of Chiang Mai (my favorite) and the southern beaches of Phuket.

Wat Phra Chetu Phon is one of the oldest and largest temples in Bangkok. The reclining Buddha is the largest in Thailand in more than 150 feet. Local markets and food can easily be accessed with local Tuk-Tuks, take your time in the city and enjoy its culture and nightlife. Chiang Mai is my favorite in the north given the misty mountains and temples. Of course, the southern beaches of Phi Phi island are simply incredible. A photographer's dream, just simply hop on a kayak and grab your camera. The islands have exploded in popularity, along with it has come the crowds and pollution. My hope is that we continue to be stewards of this beautiful area and take care of this once hidden treasure. Southeast Asia is close to my heart, part of my family is from this area. I'll have several stories to share in the future.
